Thank you for supporting our dream…
Hi, I’m Lucy! I’m Dena’ina Athabascan from the Native Village of Tyonek in Alaska, and I went to high school in Ironwood, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan along the pristine shoreline of Lake Superior. I am grateful to have also inherited Finnish Sisu, I carry that with me every day. I often imagine that my ancestors loved herbal teas and enjoyed the comfort that a hot drink brought to them during frigid winters in Alaska and Finland. I think the love of snow is just in my DNA and creating small gifts, like from the warmth of a cup of coffee, is my love language.
I fell in love with coffee during undergrad when I needed to stay awake and found I looked forward to a warm cup and cozy coffee shops. The joy that coffee brings someone is a gift that my heart is grateful to make.
Our business began while I was carrying around my 6 month old through feet of snow and no parking to get my coffee fix. We set up our vision board and dreamed up what our community needed. It was quality coffee and great customer service for people on the go!
Michael is my husband, lured to the U.P. from the high deserts of Eastern Oregon with the promise of all the hunting and fishing he could muster. Maybe the amount of snow we get was a surprise 🙂 But I think he is hooked! The beauty of our Northwoods is truly a wonder.
Michael has always been a coffee aficionado so he easily redirected his mechanical and building skills to keep Copper Cup running.
In addition to supporting the local economy, giving back to the local community is one of the most important opportunities for us. We are aiming to grow our community involvement and have mighty dreams ahead for this. Read more about our charitable giving here.
“Up North”
It’s the place people go to escape,
-Suzanne Kindler
a place made of cabins, pine trees and lakes.
But no matter how far you drive,
there’s no sign to say “You’ve arrived”
So just follow your heart till you find,
your special place that brings peace of mind.
As you breathe in the air and unwind,
your cares are all left behind.
It’s no mystery where the northwoods start.
When you’re “up north,”
you’ll know in your heart.
